[a poem, by Sha'Tara] ..."did I not say, Ye Are Gods?"... The gods would have laughed but dead before their time, their non-voices fed my eternal silence. O, to be God! (like God!) O, to have such Power! Indeed, Omniscient: nothing left to know! Omnipresent: no place left to go! Omnipotent: a cosmos of Self suitable but for destruction! Of such is Absolute Power. O, maddening burden, incomprehensible curse! Dying to know, to do, to be to end it all: Impossible! "For I, the Lord, do not change!" The gods, my children asking, begging, for relief from the curse of eternity: in love I killed them one by one I smothered them in mindless anger, with Pain I smote, destroyed, annihilated. Alone in Power, my only companion, my hell, my Self: my One: Eternity. Now you see ultimate horror: would Ye Be The New Gods?

Incredibly powerful, evoking me to imagine the many faces of god (including political figures)…

Hi Clarissa. I posted the following reply meant for you. It ended up below, on “Woebegone but Hopeful” comments. Here goes: My “Muse” enjoys making me look at those faces we never think about. We don’t think we should engage, then we wonder why our beliefs, our faiths, do not deliver as expected. Instead of excusing “god” and rationalizing, we are supposed to stare at the truth of it all, even if it threatens to make us blind. I’m not talking about abandoning, going die-hard atheist, but about engaging. Thank you for your comment. I have yet to comment on your own amazing poem, the Triptych. That got me thinking, indeed.

Agreeing with you on some levels and not on others.
What is irrefutable is the strength of the delivery and the lyrical power of the prose.
Good art

Hi Sha’ Tara
The beautiful thing about ‘The Muse’ is that she enables us to engage at all levels across all time & space, almost a ‘dimension ‘ of her own.
Seriously ,did I actually write a poem Triptych? I think that might have been a re-blog? (The poetry in this house comes from my wife Sheila, someday I hope to nudge her back onto WordPress)

Good ol’ WordPress and its impossible formats! The “Triptych” poem was posted by Poeturja (Clarissa Simmens) and my comment was ostensibly intended for her!!! Don’t know how it “crossed over” but then I’ve been having some serious difficulties with WP lately, esp. in the changes they’ve made to how my “write” page on my blog works now: I absolutely hate what they’ve done. The only thing I can think of why they’d so royally screw up is they want “me” (us freebies) to move into paid blog space and are trying to discourage us from using the free space… but then I’m a conspiracy theorist after all… 🙂

I pay (something to do with being an author, I think……’frib’ knows why,)…anyway…..It’s not much clearer anyway, I keep losing people’s latest posts and have to scroll back through days (and daze).
Mind you the experience does provide some inspiration when writing ‘Fantasy’ 🙃

Sha’Tara,
A hellish scenario, indeed. Eternal stagnation, no place to go but down. My concept is of a perpetual state of becoming, with no final answers, no final truths, no end to growth of consciousness. Sort of like the expanding universe.
To imagine eternity is in the moment requires a different approach to time.

I agree with your concept entirely. I think this “poem” was inspired more by the image of God presented to us within various religious beliefs/systems. A closed wall eternity, a box that is an Absolute, containing the Absolute in which should the least iota of anything happened, there would be a total implosion that would annihilate all, or instant ultimate entropy. It is a false view, but it is how the Jewish/Christian/Islamic “God” sees itself – being created thus by its religions.

A powerful exposition of the gods of men, Sha’Tara. In their quest for absolute power, the gods of men drive us towards annihilation.

I found this disturbing, and enlightening, aboth good things. It put me in mind of the Seventies, for some reason, and this bit, knowing that you will see it contextually with your usual thoughts.
Man alone, born of stone
Will stamp the dust of time
His hands strike the flame of his soul;
Ties a rope to a tree and hangs the Universe
Until the winds of laughter blows cold

Indeed.

Well, I learned a new word – oronym. Karn Evil stands for carnival. Kool! I get the self-destructive “man” caught up in his civilization, unable to extricate himself. We’re seeing much of that.
